NEW album “Hard II Love” from Usher – Review

After 4 years from “Looking for myself” the Dallas R&N singer is finally back with his 8th album titled “Hard II Love”, this release comes after several delays and dropping various singles that actually didn’t make the record, but finally we have some new material from Usher.

If you´re into R&B your gonna like this work, Usher got back to the old him and stop experimenting with new music and genres (mainly electronic music), perhaps 1 or 2 song could fall into the category of experimienting and him trying to blend with the sounds and likes of 2016, however all of the other songs are real real real straight classic R&B.

Usher is about to turn 38 in October and his living his second marriage and I think his lyrics and thoughts reflect that,”he´s hard to love” and “he’s hard to trust” and because of that he has suffered and also it probably could be the reason for the cover of the record, who shows a damaged Usher, aditionally he mentions what he looks in a woman and he definitely shows he´s not ready to let the “game” be taken by the new rising “stars”, but the reality is that this album took way too long and sometimes feels like he didn’t take a lot of risks in his sounds and music and that could be a problem for the commercial success of “Hard II Love”.

This time Usher isn’t looking to please the mainstream market, he’s just doing what he feels and desires and if someone has earned the right to do an album without that kind of pressure is him
He doesn’t have to prove anything to no one, if you look back he has been at the top of the game for decades, he´s a R&B vet with a great voice, you can clearly appreciate his voice in the song “Crash” featuring his falsetto, who can basically do whatever he wants.

Final Note: The song called “Champions” is from the movie “Hands of Stone”, where Usher plays “Sugar Ray Leonard”, and the song features Ruben Blades a Panamanian singer, songwriter, actor, musician, activist, and politician.
